DURHAM - Through three rounds of pool play during the opening day of the 2023 NCAA Fencing Championship, the Duke fencing team is currently in 10th place in the team standings with 22 points.
Notre Dame holds first place with 62 points, followed by Columbia (52), Princeton (47), Ohio State (44) and Penn (40) to round out the top five.
The men's squad kicked off the championship as three Blue Devils competed in their respective events. Senior Terence Lee and junior Stephen Kim competed for saber while sophomore Allen Marakov headlined the epee contingent.
Kim is currently in ninth place with eight victories while Lee is not far behind in 12th. Marakov sits at 17th in epee.
The Blue Devil men will compete in their final eight bouts in pool play in their respective weapons Friday and will attempt to move up the leaderboard with their focus on a top-four spot. The four fencers in each weapon with the best marks will advance to the semifinals of a single-elimination bracket of 15-touch bouts.
The semifinal and championship bouts will be aired on ESPN+ beginning at 1:30 p.m.
