DURHAM – Following a historic 2021 campaign for Duke men's soccer, senior goalkeeper
Eliot Hamill has announced he will use the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic and remain the team for the 2022 campaign.
Â
"I am very excited and grateful about this opportunity to come back for my fifth year of eligibility as a student at the Fuqua School of Business," said Hamill. "It's been a pleasure to be a part of this team for four years and I feel incredibly lucky to get another one. We have a lot of unfinished business following last year and now it's time to do the work to get ready for next fall. See you in Koskinen Blue Devil fans!"
Â
A native of Scarsdale, N.Y., Hamill is coming off a career season in goal for the Blue Devils, going 12-5-1 with a .755 save percentage and 1.24 goals against average. Hamill registered six shutouts and made 71 saves, which was just two away from ranking in the top-10 seasons in program history.
Â
A team captain, Hamill's leadership was critical for the Blue Devils throughout the entire season. Hamill guided Duke to several early season wins, including three-straight shutouts in his starts from Sep. 11-25. The senior's shining performance came in a 1-0 win at Clemson in the ACC Championship semifinal, making six saves and facing a season-high 27 shots to down the eventual national champions. The win propelled the Blue Devils to their first ACC final since 2006.
Â
Hamill and the Duke squad will return to action in the fall.
