CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior Samantha Harris of the Duke women's tennis team knocked off a top five foe to reach the final of the ITA Carolina Regional Championship on Sunday afternoon.   

Duke was assured at least one semifinalist as Harris and freshman Kelly Chen were matched up in one of the four quarterfinals. The doubles partners needed all three sets to decide the winner as Harris eventually claimed a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 victory to advance to the semifinals. In the other Duke quarterfinal, junior Kaitlyn McCarthy fell to North Carolina's fourth-ranked Sara Daavettila 6-2, 7-5 to end her run. Harris and Daavettila then matched up in the semifinals and Harris took a 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 victory for her first win against a top five opponent this fall. The win earns Harris a spot in the ITA Fall Championships main draw.

Harris will meet Winthrop's 55th-ranked Lauren Proctor in the final.  The match will get underway at 10 a.m. on Monday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
