DWS Freshman Spotlight: Emily Wilson

DURHAM, N.C.— As the Duke women's soccer program gets set to open practice Wednesday, Aug. 3, GoDuke.com would like to introduce the members of the fourth-ranked recruiting class in the nation that includes Emma Carlson of Lilburn, Ga., Olivia Erlbeck of San Diego, Calif., Mia Gyau of Colesville, Md., Brooke Heinsohn of Norfolk, Mass., Lexi Magliarditi of Newport Coast, Calif., Ella Stevens of Grayson, Ga., Emily Wilson of Potomac, Md., and Mackenzie Coles of Wexford, Pa.

The seventh rookie that will be spotlighted is Emily Wilson, who is a 5-7 midfielder from Potomac, Md.  Wilson, the sister of recent graduate Kara Wilson, is coming off a senior campaign at Sidwell Friends School where she registered six goals and six assists.  She did not see action as a junior due to injury, but combined for 15 goals and nine assists as a freshman and sophomore.

Get to Know Wilson –

What do you enjoy most about playing soccer?
I enjoy the team aspect most about soccer. I like how everyone works hard for his or her teammates and not for themselves.

What age did you start playing soccer?
I started playing soccer when I was five.

When/why did you decide soccer was going to be your sport you concentrated on?
I decided I would focus on soccer at the end of eighth grade. I felt that soccer taught me more, on and off the field, than any other sport.  My coaches and teammates had a huge impact on my decision.

What are you most looking forward to when you arrive on campus at Duke?
Getting to know the girls on the team more and our first game!

Who has had the greatest influence on your game?
My club coach, Clyde, who stuck with me through my foot injury.

What are you doing this summer?
Training with my club team, interning, and spending time with family and friends.
