Duke in MLL Update: Blue Devils Vying for Playoff Spots

A record 15 former Blue Devils have suited up for five different teams in Major League Lacrosse this season. Duke standouts are among the top scorers, defenders and faceoff men in the league with Brendan Fowler and Ned Crotty participating in the MLL All-Star Game in July.

With two weeks remaining in regular season play seven of the teams remain in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs. The semifinals will take place August 13th with the winners advancing to the championship game August 20th in Kennesaw, Ga.

Jordan Wolf – Rochester Rattlers

  • Rochester remains in playoff contention with a 6-5 overall record.
  • Leads the Rattlers and ranks sixth in the league with 34 goals and 14 assists for 48 points.
  • He is three goals shy of matching his total from last season.

Ned Crotty – Rochester Rattlers

  • Rochester remains in playoff contention with a 6-5 overall record.
  • Second on the team and tied for 19th in the league in scoring with 11 goals and 25 assists for 36 points.
  • Third in the league in assists and has surpassed his points total from last season and are tied for the most since he had 50 in 2011.

David Lawson – New York Lizards

  • New York is 7-4 overall and sits in second place with league-leader Baltimore having played 12 games.
  • Third among Lizards and 17th in the MLL in points, scoring 28 goals, including three two-pointers, and seven assists, for 38 points.
  • His 28 goals are 12th in the league, while his three two-point goals are tied for fourth.
  • The 38 points are tied for the most of his career, passing his total from 14 games last season.
  • Has scored three game-winning goals for the Lizards in 2016.

Matt Danowski – Chesapeake Bayhawks

  • Has helped Chesapeake to the top of the league with an 8-4 overall record.
  • Owns 17 goals and 12 assists for 29 points in his 10 games, ranking third on the team in points and 26th in the league.
  • Looking to have his ninth straight season with at least 30 points in a year.

Myles Jones – Chesapeake Bayhawks

  • Traded to the Bayhawks from Atlanta after two games and has helped the Bayhawks to the top of the league.
  • Has 10 goals, including one two-pointer, and seven assists for 18 points with the Bayhawks. Owns 21 points overall in his rookie season.
  • Recently was named the Player of the Game after scoring three goals and an assist in win over Atlanta.
  • Registered his first two-point goal to tie the game en route to the 14-13 road win at Florida.

Justin Turri – Boston Cannons

  • Has Boston in sixth place with a 6-6 record.
  • Has 15 goals, including two two-pointers, and nine assists for 26 points for third on the team.
  • Has bested his 2015 points total, surpassing the 11 he had a year ago and is eight points shy of matching his career-best 34 in 2014.

Deemer Class – Atlanta Blaze

  • Has seven goals and three assists for 11 points in his five games with a 3-8 Atlanta Blaze squad in its inaugural season.
  • Scored a career-high four goals in his second career game and has at least one point in all five outings.

Chris Hipps – Atlanta Blaze

  • Has played in all 11 games for the 3-8 Atlanta Blaze.
  • Owns a two-point goal, 18 ground balls and nine cause turnovers.
  • Is two ground balls shy of matching his total from his rookie season in 2015.
  • First two goal came at Denver, a two-pointer in an 18-11 loss.

CJ Costabile – Chesapeake Bayhawks

  • Has played in eight games for the first-place Bayhawks.
  • Owns three goals, including one two-pointer, and an assist for five points
  • Also has collected 32 ground balls and two ground balls.
  • Is five ground balls shy of his total in 14 games last season.

Brendan Fowler – Charlotte Hounds

  • Has helped the Charlotte Hounds to a 7-5 record for third place in the league.
  • Won 143-of-299 faceoffs and ranks eighth in the league with 57 ground balls, earning a spot in the All-Star Game.
  • Also has scored three goals and an assist for four points. 

Michael Manley – Rochester Rattlers

  • Has played in nine games for Rochester, which remains in playoff contention with a 6-5 overall record.
  • Registered five goals, 27 ground balls and five caused turnovers. Is 10 ground balls shy of his career-best 37 in 14 games in 2014.

Will Haus – Charlotte Hounds

  • Suited up in 11 games for Charlotte, helping the Hounds to third place.
  • Has scored two goals and has picked up 30 ground balls and forced eight turnovers.

Josh Dionne – Atlanta Blaze

  • Played in five games for the 3-8 Atlanta Blaze.
  • Scored six goals in those five games.
  • Recorded a hat trick in a 22-10 win at Florida.

Jake Tripucka – New York Lizards

  • Has played in five games for the 7-4 New York Lizards.
  • Owns two goals and an assist for three points.

Henry Lobb – Charlotte Hounds

  • Has played in five games with the Charlotte Hounds.
  • Picked up eight ground balls and two caused turnovers.
