Stachowiak Named Duke Student-Athlete of the Week

DURHAM, N.C. – Junior Nick Stachowiak of the Duke men's tennis team was named the Duke Student-Athlete of the Week after providing the clinching point in a comeback victory over Elon, 4-3.

Down 2-0 and 3-2, the Blue Devils were able to finalize the comeback led by Stachowiak to pick up their first win of the dual match season at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. Stachowiak registered a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory on court one for the final tally. He trailed 3-0 in the opening set before cutting the deficit to 4-3, but Felipe Sarrasague broke and held to end the set. The second set was even at 2-2 before Stachowiak held with a deuce point and broke to take control of the set. The third set was all Stachowiak as he sealed the victory.

With the win, Duke improved to 16-1 in its last 17 season-opening dual matches and to 13-1 all-time versus Elon. The Blue Devils have also captured their indoor home opener in 14 of the last 16 years.

The Blue Devils next compete at home Friday against No. 24 Arizona State. Start time is set for 6 p.m.
