Duke Announces 2016 Men?s Soccer Schedule

DURHAM, N.C.—Duke men's soccer head coach John Kerr has announced the 2016 Blue Devils schedule featuring 11 home games and seven NCAA Tournament teams. The Blue Devils will host four ACC contests at Koskinen Stadium, including perennial top-10 foes North Carolina and Notre Dame, and will travel to play Pac-12 leader UCLA.

Coming off of a 10-7-2 record, Duke will play a trio of exhibition games before hosting the John Rennie Nike Classic the final weekend of August. The Blue Devils will test themselves first August 12 at Jacksonville before returning home to host Georgetown and NCAA runner-up Clemson in two final warmups to the regular season.  The Hoyas will visit August 16 and the Tigers will step onto Koskinen the 19th. Duke and Clemson are not scheduled to play in the regular season.

One week later, the Blue Devils open the campaign versus San Diego and UNC Asheville for the John Rennie Nike Invitational. Duke and the Toreros kick off August 26 at 7:30 p.m. The Blue Devils close the tournament Sunday against UNC Asheville at 2:30 p.m.

Duke faces its biggest non-conference test next, traveling across the country to take on UCLA Sept. 2. The travel continues for the Blue Devils with the ACC-opener at NCAA quarterfinalist Boston College the following week.

After playing consecutive road games, Duke returns to the friendly confines of Koskinen Stadium for a five-game homestand. Gardner-Webb opens the stretch Sept. 13, while Wake Forest and Pittsburgh make visits Sept. 16 and 27, respectively.

Trips to NC State and Virginia Tech Sept. 30 and October 7, respectively, will be split with a home contest against Davidson. The Blue Devils and Wildcats are embroiled in an intense rivalry, having played each of the past 10 seasons and Duke going 7-2-1 in those outings.

Duke has had the Wolfpack's number over the past five seasons, going 4-0-1, including last season's 6-2 victory in Durham. The Blue Devils have been equally as successful against the Hokies recently, going unbeaten in the previous 12 meetings.

The Blue Devils play host for three straight games to close their 2016 home schedule. Rival North Carolina steps into Koskinen Stadium Oct. 14 two seasons after the Blue Devils took down the Tar Heels in front of a capacity crowd in 2014. A meeting with Notre Dame ends Duke's home schedule Oct. 21.

Duke ends the regular season with road games at Elon and Virginia. The Blue Devils will be looking for their first road win over the Phoenix since 2008, while Duke is in search of its first victory over the Cavaliers since 2009.
