Women's Tennis Recruiting Spotlight: Meible Chi

DURHAM, N.C. -- The Duke women's tennis team welcomes one of the top recruits in the country, as Meible Chi is set to join the Blue Devils for the 2016-17 campaign.

Prior to Duke: Meible Chi comes to Duke as one of the top-ranked recruits according to tennisrecruiting.net. Chi recently played into the semifinal round of the 2016 United States Tennis Association (USTA) International Spring Championships, with three of her four wins in the tournament coming by way of straight sets. The previous year, Chi reached the quarterfinal round of the 2015 Pan American International Tennis Federation (ITF) Championship. Chi also earned a fourth-place finish at the USTA Girls' 18 National Clay Court Championships in 2015.

In doubles, Chi claimed the title at the USTA National Selection Tournament in February 2015 and reached the championship match of the Pan American ITF Championship that same year. Chi has also seen action in numerous doubles quarterfinal round matches, including at the 2016 Easter Bowl Championship, the 2015 Metropolia Orange Bowl International Championship and the 2015 Abierto Juvenil Mexicano.

What do you enjoy most about playing tennis?
Recently, I've enjoyed the competitive aspect of the sport. I feel like I have gained a bit of self-confidence, which helps me really enjoy the fight.

What are you most looking forward to when you arrive on campus at Duke?
I am really looking forward to the community atmosphere, both on the campus and on the team. Tennis is an individual sport, so being near others who share similar goals or dreams will be inspiring.

Who has had the greatest influence on your game?
I think my parents have had the greatest influence on my game, because they are always supportive and believe in my potential. They are my biggest fans.
