Blue Devils Fall at Georgia Tech, 4-3, Saturday

ATLANTA, Ga. – The top-ranked Duke women's tennis team closed the regular season Saturday with its second straight loss as the Blue Devils dropped a 4-3 decision at 27th-ranked Georgia Tech at Ken Byers Tennis Complex in Atlanta, Ga.

After only losing one doubles point the entire season, Duke lost for the second straight match at Georgia Tech as the Blue Devils trailed on all three courts.  Head coach Jamie Ashworth reworked his entire lineup Saturday as junior standout Ester Goldfeld was not available for the match.

Duke dropped doubles matches on court one and three as Annie Mulholland and Hanna Mar fell, 8-4, to fourth-ranked Megan Kurey and Kendal Woodard, while dropping an 8-3 decision on court three as Rachel Kahan and Marianne Jodoin lost to Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer and Rasheeda McAdoo.

In singles action, Jodoin cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Anton-Ohlmeyer on court six to even the score, 1-1, but the Yellow Jackets responded with a win on court two as Kurey downed Duke's Chalena Scholl, 6-2, 6-4.

Georgia Tech went ahead 3-1 following a 6-1, 6-3 victory by McAdoo over 111th-ranked Alyssa Smith.  The Blue Devils stormed back with back-to-back wins on court three and one to even the match, 3-3.

The 35th-ranked Mar downed Natasha Prokhnevska, 6-0, 6-2 on the third court, while fifth-ranked Beatrice Capra registered a 6-2, 7-6 win on No. 1.  The match came down to court five as Kahan was going up against Muriel Wacker.  Kahan jumped out to a 6-2 win in the first set, but Wacker battled back to win the next two sets, 6-3, 6-2 to give Georgia Tech the win.

The Blue Devils dropped to 21-3 overall and 11-3 in the ACC, while Georgia Tech improved to 12-8, 9-5.

Duke will next compete in the ACC Championship from April 24-27 in Cary, N.C.  The brackets for the championship will be released on Sunday, April 20.
