Alvarez Repeats as First Team All-ACC Honoree

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke sophomore Nicolas Alvarez repeated as a first team All-ACC honoree in a vote of the league's coaches, according to a release from the conference office Thursday morning. Alvarez served as Duke's top singles player all year.

Alvarez, who has been ranked among the top 26 singles players all year, will enter the NCAA Individual Championship with a 17-14 overall record. He topped the Blue Devils with 10 wins against nationally ranked opponents and went 6-5 versus ACC foes. Alvarez's six league victories, all in the No. 1 position, tied for the most on the squad.

The Lima, Peru, product clinched a team-leading four matches for Duke, against Tennessee, N.C. A&T, Charlotte and Miami. After tallying both deciding points in 7-0 sweeps against N.C. A&T and Charlotte, Alvarez was tabbed the February 23 ACC Player of the Week.

Alvarez has been on a hot streak near the end of the campaign with wins in his last three matches and six of the last seven, five against ACC foes. Alvarez tallied his highest ranked win of the season during the stretch at No. 6 Wake Forest with a 6-4, 6-4 victory against No. 13 Skander Mansouri.

The top individual winners in the league this year were Georgia Tech's Chris Eubanks, who received the ACC's Player of the Year accolade and Wake Forest's Petros Chysochos and Tony Bresky, who were named the league's freshman and coach of the year, respectively.

Alvarez will learn his NCAA Individual Championship draw Wednesday, May 4.
