Martin Named Groza Star of the Week

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Duke senior Ross Martin collected his second accolade of the week on Monday as he was named a Lou Groza Collegiate Place Kicker Award Star of the Week, according to an announcement by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission. It is the second time in Martin's career he has been named a Groza Star of the Week.

Martin converted all three field goal attempts Saturday, helping Duke to a 9-7 win against Boston College. The Solon, Ohio, native drilled his attempts from 36, 38 and 53 yards, equaling his personal career long. The 53-yard field goal is tied for the fifth longest make in the nation this season and the longest in the ACC. The 53-yarder also moved into sole possession of second place on Duke's all-time chart for field goals of 50 or more yards with the fifth of his career.

This season, Martin is the only kicker in the country with nine or more made field goals without a miss. Martin also ranks tied for eighth in made field goals and tied for 13th nationally in field goals made per game (1.8).

A two time Lou Groza Award semifinalist, Martin was named to the Groza Award Watch List this August. This year's award will be presented as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards in Atlanta on December 10th. The three finalists will be honored at the 24th Annual Lou Groza Awards Banquet on December 7 at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in West Palm Beach, Fla.

The Blue Devils (4-1, 2-0 ACC) travel to West Point, N.Y., this weekend to face Army West Point (1-4) at noon Saturday. The contest will be televised on the CBS Sports Network.
