EJ Proctor received a couple of honors Tuesday as the sophomore earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week and was selected to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week.
Proctor, who hails from Wilson, N.C., collected her first two career shutouts this past week against two nationally ranked opponents. In the first match Friday, Proctor posted a career-high 10 saves at fourth-ranked Penn State on her way to notching her first collegiate shutout as the match went into double-overtime and finished in a 0-0 draw. She faced 21 Nittany Lion shots and stepped up big time in help the Blue Devils finish with the tie in front of over 4,000 fans.
In Sunday's finale against 25th-ranked William & Mary, Proctor totaled three saves over 90 minutes as the Blue Devils notched a 2-0 victory. It was her second straight shutout and now owns a 0.00 goals-against average in 298:44 minutes. Her two shutouts ranks tied first in the ACC statistics.
Proctor and the Blue Devils (3-0-1) have opened the 2015 campaign with four straight shutouts for the first time since 1997.
The Blue Devils host the Duke Nike Classic Sept. 4 and 6, which includes four ranked teams – Southern California, California and North Carolina. North Carolina and California will kick things off Friday, Sept. 4 at 5:00 p.m., followed by Southern California and Duke at 7:30 p.m. All matches will be played at Koskinen Stadium and aired live on ESPN3.
