DURHAM, N.C.—Duke University sophomore defenseman Ian Yanulis was selected as this week's ACC Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in the Blue Devils' win over Marquette Saturday. This is Yanulis' first career award and the second straight week a Duke player has garnered the honor.
Yanulis, a close defenseman, helped hold Marquette to just eight goals, marking the sixth time this season the Blue Devils have held their opponent to fewer than 10 goals. The Duxbury, Mass., native picked up a career-high matching five ground balls and registered one caused turnover that resulted in a transition goal for the Blue Devils.
In his 14 games this season, Yanulis is tied for second among close defenseman with 19 ground balls. He also has four caused turnovers on the year. His 19 ground balls are more than triple what he had last season in 16 games played.
The No. 6 Blue Devils head into the ACC Championship as the fourth seed with a 10-4 overall record and on a three-game win streak. They will face top-ranked Notre Dame in the opening semifinal April 24 at 5:30 p.m., on ESPNU.
